Assisted (low income) housing was established
to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible
low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
Assisted (low income) housing comes in all sizes and
types, from scattered single family houses to high-rise
apartments.
Assisted (low income) housing is limited
to low-income families and individuals. CHA determines
eligibility based on:
- Annual gross income
- Whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a
disability, or as a family; and
- U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status.
If a family is eligible, CHA will check
references to ensure that the family will be a good
tenant. The Authority will deny admission to any applicant
whose habits and practices may be expected to have a
detrimental effect on other tenants or on the community's
environment.
In addition to subsidizing living units
for various family sizes, CHA offers assisted (low income)
housing units that are specifically designated for seniors
and young adults with disabilities.
